Day 01 - Amsterdam

We made it to Amsterdam!

After landing, we boarded a shuttle bus that took us to the airport to gather our luggage. Thankfully everything arrived with us, but we had tucked Apple AirTags in our luggage, just in case. The Viking reps met us on the other side of baggage claim and quickly arranged transportation to our hotel. We arrived at the Mövenpick Hotel right near the water and luckily were able to check into our room, even though it was only noon. There was slight confusion on getting our bags because they tried to send them to the other people that were in our transport, but hotel didn’t figure out they belong to us. So we got to rest while waiting about 2 hours for our luggage. The only real reason I need our bags is because it had our European Adapters so we could charge our phones back up before hitting the city. Luckily we had a battery backup, and just used that to top up our phones.

Once rested and batteries top up, we went out to find food. In researching, I found out that the people of the Netherland love pancakes. They are thin like a Swedish pancake or a crepe, but a little thicker. They have sweet and savory types with many different items to put in them - kinda like a pizza or crepes, but it’s a dutch pancake. We went to Pancakes Amsterdam and both got a bacon and cheese pancake. Not being use to that combination of a pancake and added stuff, it was a little weird on the brain, but tasty. Mom also tried some Dutch coffee that includes eggnog & whipping cream that you pour on top. Mom says it was ok, but a little too sweet for her.

Now that we were fueled up, it was time to explore the city. I had booked a special surprise for mom so we wander over to our next adventure. Exploring the city on our way, we saw Dam Square were the King lives when in residence or they use as a ‘city hall” type building, wandered through the canals to our next stop a Those Dam Boat Guy tours. Not your typical boat tour, because the guides are a little more irreverent in pointing out different thing along the cruise, but lots of fun.

We had such nice weather for our first day and wandering the city and the canals. Oh and so many bike!

After that we headed back to our hotel, ate dinner there, and called it a night.

Tomorrow is our first official tour.
