Day 10 - Tornado in Missouri.
Monday, June 7, 2010
Crazy day of bad weather, we are no expert on weather patterns when it comes to more extreme weather but we THINK we drove right thru the middle of a tornado today. Luckily we had the Flip camera handy and we actually got video of it. It was REALLY scary, but we got thru it safe.
Moo.

After spending the night at Munger Moss Motel in Lebanon we packed up and stopped at the first breakfast looking place we saw. In a word... DIVE. plenty of local charm but a DIVE and wicked smokey. If you know how much Beth can't stand cigarette smoke you will know what a trouper she was for putting up with it. I just don't know what goes thru your head to wake up in the morning and think, 'wow, what I wouldn't do for a good omelet and a Camel.' But on the flip side... we saw all families... yep, grandmother and mother and three kids having breakfast together. Yea, smoking around the kids but at least they were having breakfast together.

This was too weird. Old manual pumps with no digital dials. You have to pay cash, (gas feels way more expensive when its cash out of your pocket to pay for it). Oh, and I didn't get to pump my own gas. When I made some comment about how different it was from home she asked where we were from and when I told her, she said... "yea I used to live in Santa Clara..."... so many transplants in Missouri.

Beth had been wanting to take some shots of these huge bails of hay for a while and we came across a great big field of them with enough room to pull over and park for a while. You would not believe the looks you get from locals when they look at you with these puzzled looks on their face... "why you take pictures of the hay??"

So, in a nutshell... Steak n' Shake has stellar Burgers and crap fries... funny thing is, every employee we talked to said the same thing. No one likes the fries.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAha! I think this trip just might be getting the best of ya's! but seriously...freak'n hilarious!
MOO!
Finally, I'm on your site for the first time. How fortuitous that I start on the day of your entry of your tornado experience! COOL! And to think you actually saw TWO cows getting blown by you is absolutely AMAZING! I'm jealous...but enjoying your blog. :-)
Great pics Beth! I can't wait to see more of those... so much character to capture in rural America!
Of course the "Redmon" place you stopped at is has a huge Candy sign on it. Perfect!
I can't believe it.....it's even spelled right!
A lot of times we see the named spelled with an "a" (Redman) or "d" (Redmond)
Thanks for the photo! Nice to know you were thinking of us!
Great photos! The perfect Steak and Shake meal is a double with everthing and a cup of chili.
There is a Steak and Shake just a few blocks west of the motel you stayed at that still has car hops. It is the only one that still has that service.
